A replacement for Windows' Disk Cleanup tool

Cleanmgr+ is a free utility tool that was made by an indie developer, builtbybel, for PCs. This disk management program serves as a replacement for the popular Windows feature called, Disk Cleanup, which will no longer be included in the OS moving forward, starting with Windows 10.

Various programs, such as CCleaner and Wise Disk Cleaner, offer methods of cleaning up temporary or leftover files on PCs to free up space. Cleanmrg+ is unique in the way that it tries to replicate the function and simplicity of Windows' built-in Disk Cleanup tool that users are fond of.

What's in Cleanmgr+?

Cleanmgr+ features a simple and clean user interface that utilizes a multi-pane layout. When you browse through the list of items, you will notice that it included the majority of the clean-up options that were available in the original Windows Disk Cleanup tool on top of providing some of its own. So far, there are 21 cleaning options that are available to you, including the ability to remove Windows Update Files, Thumbnails, and various application Cache.

One neat feature in Cleanmgr+ is called preview, and it basically serves as a sort of dry run or simulation. To try it out, select a cleaning option that you want and click on the preview button to initiate a test. The tool will show you detailed information of things like a log of events and highlights, what files were cleaned, and how much storage space was freed up.

Finally, you can dig through the settings menu to configure things, such as enabling descriptions for each item on the list or include all Windows Disk Cleanup options automatically for each run. As far as things that could be improved upon, it would have to be the design of the user interface. The layout is good, but there is just too much wasted space that makes the text looks small at times.

Overall, Cleanmgr+ takes what was much loved in the original Windows Disk Cleanup tool, and improves upon it in just about every aspect for the modern user. The cleanup options you get are better and more extensive than ever before, and the preview feature provides you with a better understanding of what's going on during the whole process.
